At Kiddo Genius, our Mental Arithmetic Program isn’t just about doing math fast-it's about transforming how your child thinks, processes information, and builds lifelong learning skills. Using the authentic Japanese HIKARI® method and the Soroban abacus, our program trains both the left and right sides of the brain, helping children develop sharper focus, stronger memory, and exceptional mental agility.

What Is Mental Arithmetic?

Your child was born with almost as many brain cells as an adult—but it’s the connections between those cells that shape intelligence, memory, and focus.

This is where we come in.

Our students show real results:
Stronger focus and attention
Sharper memory and faster thinking
Greater confidence and love for learning
Better performance in math and other subjects

How do we do it?
Through our Mental Arithmetic program, powered by the original HIKARI® 光 method, we activate both sides of the brain using sight, sound, and touch. “Hikari” means light in Japanese—symbolizing the mental spark children experience through our multi-sensory approach.

Using our Total Brain Development Program and the VAK (Visual–Auditory–Kinesthetic) method, children don’t just memorize math—they build a strong, flexible mind that learns how to think.

It all starts with the Soroban Abacus.
Children physically move the beads, exploring numbers with their hands and eyes. Over time, they develop a mental abacus, solving problems through imagination, memory, and visualization.

This dynamic brain training activates both hemispheres at once:

Left brain: logic, sequencing, structure
Right brain: imagination, visual memory, creativity

The result is a dramatic improvement not just in math performance, but also in focus, working memory, processing speed, and problem-solving abilities—skills that transfer directly to success in school and daily life.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is Mental Arithmetic, and how does it work?
Mental Arithmetic is a brain-training method that teaches children to visualize and solve math problems in their head using a mental image of the Japanese abacus (Soroban). Over time, this boosts their memory, focus, and logical thinking - all while making math fun and intuitive.
What age group is this program designed for?
Our Mental Arithmetic program is designed for children ages 4 to 12, with different levels tailored to each age and learning pace. Whether your child is just starting or already math-confident, we meet them where they are.
How is Mental Arithmetic different from regular math tutoring?
Unlike traditional tutoring that focuses on solving homework problems, Mental Arithmetic develops whole-brain skills - such as visualization, problem-solving, and memory. It’s about building long-term cognitive strength, not just catching up in school.
What results can I expect for my child?
Parents report significant improvement in attention span, memory retention, calculation speed, academic performance, and self-confidence - often within a few months. Many kids also show greater enthusiasm for learning and sharper focus in school.
How many times per week is the program?
Each student attends one 2-hour 15-minute class and one 1-hour workshop per week - giving them consistent cognitive stimulation and time to master new techniques.
